06/28/2003 - Feeling Better Than Everfine Festival - Cleveland, OH

Road:
Well first off, I remembered my tickets this time, so its good start. Meredith, Tim and I had smooth sailing the whole way down even though I was on 2 hours of sleep and coming down hard from the adrenaline rush that accumulated during the previous night's anticipation for FBTE. Luckily there was a Hardee's every 25 miles so the robust flavor of Angus Beef made things much smoother....at least until Tim started releasing the tear gas that came out of his ass....or was that the sewage plant....I can't remember. Above all that, i just have to say that the one thing you should have on a road trip is your very own Tim. I swear you will never tire yourself on the road while listening to all the puking, shitting and crime stories Tim has to offer. Seriously, if there was a way to mass produce, package and retail Tim, no one would ever have a boring road trip again.

Tips on driving into Cleveland:
Don't place stickers on any toll booths along the Ohio Turnpike. It will undoubtedly lead to high pitched screams among toll booth operators causing you to stall wondering what the fuck that noise is all while feeling the backhand of a vigilante operator pounding a new dent in the back of your camry.

Also, pay attention to directions or you will be forced to drive around the entire state of Ohio in order to follow all the no U turn signs. Oh, and don't go out a rest stop the wrong way, other bad things will come of that event also.

Lastly, don't wear purple fight club sunglasses or you will end up using evasive action in order to dodge imaginary minivans coming fast in the next lane.

Cleveland:
Once you figure out where to get beer at a reasonable price the city doesn't look that bad. I know they got a bunch of bridges and shit, but there is something about the plague of mayflies that is unsettling to the Chicagoan stomach. Fortunately, our hotel was well equipped with extremely tall ceilings and an extremely bouncy bed. Not to mention the incredible view of the lights of Jacob's field. Also, I would just like to note the incredible hospitality of the window washers at the Holiday Inn Express. I mean there was not one time where I felt I was about to get my throat slashed by a steadied squeegee.

Festival:
I love the ampitheater and the surroundings, I felt like it was the ideal venue for a summer O.A.R. show. Low Life blew me away, Nathanson does sthe best cover of staying alive ever, VACO is the greatest live band EVER, Psuedopod is the shit, Maroon 5 has a good song, O.A.R. is just fucking awesome. Definitely the best Anyway, So Moved On and Earthward I have ever heard.

10/20/2002 - Tower Records - Schamburg, IL

Portillo's -> O.A.R. Insore is a great thing, especially when it is in your town, kind of. The Tower Records in Schamburg was a pretty big place and it fit everyone nicely. Even more it provided a great place to to sit and read tons of oddball magazines while waiting for the guys to get in. By the time they finally came in the place was packed and the manager wasn't letting anyone else in. That led to a decent sized crowd of late comers who pressed their faces against the wall sized windows in order to watch the show. Not only did that crowd lead to a great sight for passerbys but it also created a healthy amount of amusement for the crowd inside when people started writing song requests on the windows. As the guys came in, a good roar of pleasure came through seated crowd and fortunately everyone maintained thier place on the floor. Unfortuantely Marc's voice was terribly but the guitar sound definitely made up for it. Throughout the night they played a few new songs like Mr. Moon and Road Outside Columbus, which were suprisingly requested. Overall, It was a fun, easy going night.

8/11/2002 - Jeep World Outside Festival - Tweeter Center - Tinley Park, IL

First of all, the whole Jeep Tour sucks and I am sorry that O.A.R. had to spend a summer on it. I mean 30-45 min sets, no taping, and Sherly Crow. The only good thing that has come from this tour is all the new listeners. I expierenced this first hand by hooking these two old guys on O.A.R.. Well, I guess they got hooked becasue the band but anyway, before the show started these two older guys were sitting next to me. They asked a bunch of questions about the band I told them everything. Then as the show went on they were just amazed with O.A.R.'s sound. I heard one them say "I think I have a new band." So, one guy bought me a beer and later I saw them at the FYE tent buing Any Time Now. So, about the show, just awesome even with the short set, regular songs and no Jerry. On I Feel Home, Marc was getting real emotional, almost in tears, it was pretty amazing. I could almost feel his pain of missing home. But, the best part of the show was Louie, Louie, short but sweet. Oh, and Poker was really good. I really think Poker should be in every show, not that I am just a Poker Head, I will always love that song.

05/14/2002 - Otto's - Dekalb, IL

This was a great show. The whole tour they have been playing a lot of the same sets, but they really mixed this one up nicely. Tonight was really cool to open up with. Lots of really good outro's. One of the best On Top of the Cage's I have ever heard, I think that song was the highlight of the night. Also, in between Poetry and Poker, Chaimson played the Super Mario Bro's theme song and then Jerry comes back with the simpsons. Oh, and marc totally messed up on Conquering Fools. Right when he starts his outro/improv he just forgot what to say or couldn't think of anything, it was funny to see. As far as the crowd goes, they where fun. Like I said, this was just a fun night with good music.

05/08/2002 - Crow's Nest - Chicago, IL

I was very disappointed with this meet & Greet. It did not go well. First of all, O.A.R. is getting bigger in chicago and over 200 people showed up at the little Crow's Nest store. So, It ended up being very loud with everyone talking and extremely hot (condensation was dripping off the ceiling.) Secondly, There was a P.A. set up that was terrrible. Every time Marc would talk, screeeeeeeech! So they turned down the mic and I could barely hear his voice over all the people talking during the entire set. Finally, if you wanted to meet the band or get autographs you had to stand in line for 2 hours. I think meet & greets should be very small or everyone there should be quiet and just listen to the music. Other than all that, the music was great. In the middle of Poker, the P.A. went out and when they fixed it Marc just started right where he left off. Also, Marc made a phone call on stage between Poker and Delicate Few.
